Are Your Lights On?: How to Figure Out What the Problem Really Is
by Gause and Weinberg
They do not come any better than this book.
Do not take their solution method for a Problem Definition (especially if it is
your own method).
If you recognise the behaviour, you will appreciate this book for all the
things you may not have considered when trying to comprhend a problem.. If you
are not sure what that statement is all about, this book is for you.
If you cannot think of at least three things that might be wrong with your understanding of the problem, you do not understand the problem. So there!
Managing Your Documentation Project
by Hackos
This book is the your best guide to delivering any documentation project, of
any size, of any complexity, on time. We have been using this basic method for
years and years and we do not willing do jobs for people who are not prepared
to work to the basic process. It is not worth the lack of sleep that goes with
being the
Idiot
... er ... Hero who has to save the job at the eleventh hour. How does the
saying go?
Poor planning on your part is not going to constitute an emergency on my part
.
If you do not have time to read the book and work out the policies and procedures, we can run the Managing Documentation Projects course in-house for you. Click here for details .

User and Task Analysis for Interface Design
by Hackos and Redish
This is still on our
to read
list because we have not working near this area for sometime. But click on
the picture and to read the user reviews. It is clearly of the same standard
which is not surprising given that it draws on the considerable
experience JoAnn has had running a useability laboratory as one of their
services.
Designing Multimedia: A visual Guide to Multimendia and Online Graphic Design
by Lopuck
Just to prove the previous books are not all smoke and mirrors and one preson's
view of the world. This book covers all the same topics with different
terminology and it lets you see it applied to other media. By the way,
the book is interesting in its own right!
