Displaying your quilts

It is an easy way to share your work with people from all over the world. (For example, it is a convenient way to view a quilt in conjunction with a newsgroup discussion.) Send us photos of the work you want displayed plus accompanying text and The Quiltwise Gallery will do the rest.

You and your friends or your quilt group can arrange an on-line Show and Tell event. For example, you may have friends in another quilting group too far away to get together for a show-and-tell. The Quiltwise Gallery will create a Show&Tell room, free of charge, where you can display photos and accompanying text.

If your quilt group has a formal exhibition and would like to keep a record of some or all of the quilts on-line, The Quiltwise Gallery can create an Exhibition Hall for you, free of charge. Send us the photographs of the quilts and your catalogue text and The Quiltwise Gallery will do the rest.

If anyone wants to sell a quilt, we can display it with a For Sale sign with the price details. Interested parties can send e-mail or fax to The Quiltwise Gallery and we will pass the details to you by fax and/or e-mail so you can contact the buyer to complete the transaction direct. The Quiltwise Gallery will charge a 10% commission on sales through the gallery (a secure link will be available for on-line payment, or you can send a cheque/money-order by snail-mail).

For additional information, please e-mail quilts@lastoell.com.au.

To display a quilt, please send the following information by snail-mail (if sending a standard photograph) to The Quiltwise Gallery:

  1. Name and contact details — e-mail, a phone number and address

All personal information will be held off-line and in strict confidence; no information will be divulged to any third party.

  2. Photograph of the quilt (with your name on the back!) with a big X on the back of the photograph to show which is the top left corner when viewed from the front. (You would not want us to display the quilt up-side down or on its side!)

The photograph should be a 6x4 inch standard print; we prefer to scan the photo and provide any touch-ups to make sure it is displayed to its best advantage. Most digital cameras do not produce (yet) the quality that will do justice to a quilt. If you want to scan the photo yourself, please read The Quiltwise Gallery Scanning Standards.

If you happen to have prints larger than the standard 6x4 inch print, these are even better for scanning purposes.

You are also welcome to e-mail digital photographs for us to assess and we will do what we can with them. We will add a note to the text accompanying the quilt to say that it is a digital photograph and you are welcome to send us a standard print at a later date if you are not happy with the result.

  3. Special requests — if you want a close-up of one or two sections of the quilt, please identify them in terms of the co-ordinates (in inches or mm) of the top-left and bottom-right corner of the area(s) concerned. Measure the distances with the photograph in its proper position.
  4. A few words describing the quilt, as per the examples already on display in The Quiltwise Gallery (include the name of the owner/maker of the quilt if is not yourself).
  5. Type of display — Personal; Show&Tell Room (provide a name); Exhibition Hall (provide name).
  6. Start date — As soon can be (sensibly) arranged or specific date (allow minimum 5 days).
  7. End date — Permanent or specific date. (All permanent displays will be contacted after 6 months to verify if display should continue; if contact cannot be made after three tries, the display will be removed.)

All quilts displayed in The Quiltwise Gallery are deemed to be the property of the person identified as making/owning the quilt. The Quiltwise Gallery takes no responsibility for the patterns or scenes depicted on the quilts and will not enter into any correspondence or discussion concerning any quilt.

Take me back to where I was.
