If you are using a package such as Corel Scan that allows you to perform automatic enhancements, please switch the option off, or else please also ensure you send us the RAW (unprocessed) file the software allows you to save when you save the scan.
STEP 1 For the picture of full quilt, set the scanner to the resolution corresponding to the approximate size of your photograph:
Less than 5x3 inches (12x8 cm): use 150 dpi
Approximately 6x4 inches (15x10 cm): use 100 dpi
Larger than 7x5 inches (18x13 cm): use 50 dpi
STEP 2 Set the scanner to Full Colour. If it has a range of colour resolutions, chose 24 bit or 16 bit colour. Do not use 8 bit colour.
STEP 3 Set the scanning envelope/box/frame close to the quilt, but not touching its borders.
STEP 4 Make the scan and save it as a standard .BMP file. Do not choose any of the compression formats we want all the pixels of the original scan in the file you send to The Quiltwise Gallery.
STEP 5 If you want a close-up picture of any part of the quilt, reset the scanning envelope/box/frame to slightly larger than the specific area of interest.
STEP 6 Set the scan resolution to 200 dpi (or 300 dpi if it is a very small area, such as a single quilted flower pattern).
STEP 7 Make the scan and save it as a standard .BMP file. Do not choose any of the compression formats we want all the pixels of the original scan in the file you send to The Quiltwise Gallery.
STEP 8 Store your scan(s) in a WinZip file and mail it to The Quiltwise Gallery, along with the other information requested under the heading Displaying Your Quilts.
Thank you for your assistance and co-operation.
